Cowgirlblues x Kit Couture

Three artists, three colors -
a collection with a story

In this collaboration, the unique, hand-dyed Kidsilk yarn from Cowgirlblues meets the design universe of Kit Couture. The focus of the collaboration is on three new colors of the high-quality Kidsilk yarn from Cowgirlblues, designed by Kit Couture.

The three new colors are each inspired by three leading Nordic artists, all of whom are masters of creating unique color compositions.

The three artists are Franciska Clausen, Hilma af Klint, and Tove Jansson—all artists who worked in a time when women rarely held a place at the center of the art world, yet all three succeeded in leaving a distinct mark.

The Artists

What connects these three progressive artists is their persistence and their original vision, which have secured them a place in art history. Each of the three women took different paths into art, yet they were united by a tenacity and originality that still resonates with us today.

Franciska Clausen

A Danish painter and one of the first to
bring the European avant-garde to Denmark.
In the 1920s, she studied in Paris and Berlin,
worked closely with Fernand Léger, and moved
within the circles of Cubism and Constructivism.
Her geometric, abstract compositions were far
ahead of their time in the Danish context.

Hilma af Klint

One of the most discussed artists in the
history of world art. A Swedish
painter who, as early as 1906 – even before Kandinsky,
Mondrian, and others to whom the
invention of abstraction is usually
attributed – created large-format abstract works.
She deliberately withheld her works from the public
and bequeathed them to posterity.
This gifted artist has received significant international
attention in recent years.

Tove Jansson

A Finnish-Swedish author and
visual artist, best known for the
Moomins. However, she was also a
serious painter and illustrator who
was rooted in the Finnish modernist milieu.
Her visual universe is recognizable at
first glance: melancholic,
warm, and shaped by Nordic nature mysticism.
She is known and beloved across
generations throughout the Nordic region.

The Colors

All colors were created in close collaboration with Cowgirlblues: a dyeing house and design studio founded by Bridget Henderson based in Cape Town, South Africa.

The company specializes in hand-dyed mohair and merino wool, with each skein dyed with a unique artistic touch that makes every color composition one of a kind.

The yarns are produced under fair working conditions, with the company's employees involved in the entire dyeing process from start to finish. The result is a yarn with vibrant, unique colors – including "Kidsilk," a soft and airy blend of mohair and silk, known for its lightness and beautiful depth of color.

Franciska

This color is inspired by an abstract composition from 1929, in which contrasting colors and rectangular shapes overlap. This color combination reflects the contrasts of the work: a bold red tone, combined with a muted blue-gray and anthracite-colored specks. In her expression, Franciska moves between the feminine and the masculine, thereby referencing Franciska Clausen's experiences as a woman in a male-dominated art world.

Hilma

This color combination reflects the contrasts of the work: a bold red tone, combined with a muted blue-gray and anthracite-colored specks. Tove

The Collection

To ensure the colors truly shine, Kit Couture has built an entire collection around them: five styles, ten designs – from the airy Askoy blouse and the beginner-friendly Falster to the structured Vágar. Every model is designed to keep the vibrant, hand-dyed Kidsilk in the spotlight, rather than letting it disappear behind elaborate patterns.
