Recycled

Our recycled yarns – especially sustainable
Slow fashion – this term from the fashion industry is now also making its way into the world of hand-knitting yarns. It's about buying less, but of higher quality, and reusing materials that have already been produced. After all, what could be more environmentally friendly than reusing fibers that are no longer needed? That's why we've decided to include some recycled yarns in our collection. Since the raw material – whether cotton, wool, or cashmere – has to be finely shredded for this process, the addition of a carrier material is necessary. This can either consist of the same but non-recycled material, for example, premium cashmere blended with recycled cashmere, or it can contain polyester, which in our case is made from recycled PET bottles.

Recycling clothing is a purely mechanical process, requires no dyes or chemicals, and consumes very little water. Significant savings are achieved in the following areas:

- Land areas: When there is less space for discarded textiles and for growing new fibers.
- Water: Very little water is required for the production of mechanically recycled fibers.
- Electricity: Compared to premium fibers, recycled fibers consume significantly less electricity.
- Greenhouse gases: The production of premium fibers and polyester emits a significant amount of greenhouse gases. Furthermore, this process avoids the release of greenhouse gases that would otherwise be produced during the decomposition of discarded textiles in landfills.
