Manos del Uruguay
Fair trade & hand-dyed in Uruguay
Manos del Uruguay is a certified Fair Trade project that provides an income for women in rural areas. The undyed yarn is transported to the villages to the women of the cooperative, where it is hand-dyed in batches of up to 3 kilograms. Even though the color recipes are standardized, the results vary depending on the dyer, the region, and even the season, humidity, and intensity of sunlight during drying, as all these factors influence the dyeing process. In rare cases, even skeins from the same dye bath can look different. Therefore, it is essential to buy a sufficient quantity of these yarns and, when changing from one skein to the next, to alternate between the old and new skeins for a few rows. All Manos del Uruguay yarns are, of course, mulesing-free.
