 Semilla Melange is one of our most popular yarns in our entire range for good reason. It's slightly thicker and softer than our organic Shetland yarn and has the typical characteristics of a woolen yarn: Despite its voluminous nature, the yardage is considerable, making it a great value for money. The rustic look comes from the fact that, unlike worsted yarn, the individual fibers aren't combed and sorted until almost all the fibers lie parallel; instead, the curls are allowed to lie a little more irregularly, creating the beautiful volume. The raw material yield is also higher for woolen yarns than for worsted yarns. As a worsted yarn, Semilla Melange is also very flexible when it comes to needle size. We recently decided to reduce the recommended needle size from 4-5 mm to 3.5-4 mm, as most people prefer a dense knit. During this transition period, different colors may have different needle size recommendations. Don't let this confuse you and knit the way you like! We believe our Semilla Melange has what it takes to convince many more knitters to use more rustic yarns. The raw wool for Semilla Melange comes from mulesing-free farms in Argentina and is spun and dyed in Turkey according to GOTS guidelines. Every stage of the production process is inspected and certified according to GOTS criteria. From the happy sheep in the meadow, through the dyes, to the spinning process, energy and resource consumption, and last but not least: the well-being of all employees along the entire production chain.
